Medha Patkar, the leader of the protests to protect tribals from big dam projects in India, speaks at the Pune convention. Also on the dais are IAS-officer-turned-campaigner Aruna Roy (seated, in sari), ex-editor-and-RTI-campaigner Prakash Kardalay and Maharashtra State Information Commissioner Vijay Kuvalekar (a former journalist of 35 years).
At the moment (6.53 pm) four issues being focussed on here are:
- Expectations from the governments
- Expectations from information commissions
- Section 4 offensive (under which the government is supposed to be suo-moto release information about its departments)
- Creation of national support to RTi, in the form of a elp-line, magazine, common platform, etc (“everything but an email network, which we have already”… as someone pointed out).
Outside the weather almost looks as if we are going in for some pre-monsoon rains!
